πŸ‘‹ Hi, do you wonder if is built for you?

This is Hoda, founder and CEO of Stock Card. The picture above is me on the Nasdaq billboard in Times Square after completing the Milestone Maker program for building Stock Card. Today I want to share the story of why I built Stock Card. Shall we begin?

πŸš… The Train Ride

Let's travel back in time to 2017-18. I was a busy, successful, high-earner tech employee in Silicon Valley, California. I wanted to become a tech company CEO and run it as the best in the history of Silicon Valley. And, things were alright.

Every day, I took the train along Highway 101 from San Francisco, where I lived, to Mountain View, where I worked. And, every night, I took the opposite direction while planning my way through the corporate ladder and to my tech world domination aspiration.

While commuting, I had another way to spend my time. I used to listen to investing audiobooks, news, and podcasts. One Up On Wall Street, The Intelligent Investor, and The Essays of Warren Buffett were only a few of those titles. I also listened to the news, scrolled through Twitter, and watched YouTube videos to gather new stock ideas. Not to forget the myriad of podcast shows that I used to listen to figure out which stocks hit new lows, which companies IPO'd, and which companies had just released their earnings reports. Between those train rides, while the train clicked and rattled and the podcast hosts kept me up to speed, I'd research stocks and put my buy or sell orders.

😠 My Frustration

My portfolio was doing okay, and I was slowly and steadily building a long-term portfolio with a few short-term daring plays. But I was always frustrated with the time it took to research and pick stocks correctly.

The Internet was noisy, and gathering information from annual reports or googling things on my phone wasn't easy. Sometimes I would pick a stock because I had watched a video on YouTube, only to figure out the company had a terrible balance sheet, but the YouTuber didn't talk about it. Sometimes, I panicked about the stock I owned when it fell 25% in one day, and I had no time to research why because I had brought work from the office to finish on the train.

πŸ” I Looked Everywhere

My frustration led me down the path of a new research project. I looked for an app or a website to find the information I needed to research a stock in the same format every time, without scrolling through pages after pages of annual reports on my phone, in an easy-to-understand way, and without jargon or personal biases. I didn't find any.

Some websites had too much text. Some apps had little data. Podcasters and people I admired on Internet talked about the stocks they liked, not the ones I wanted. And on many occasions, the Internet was too noisy, and everyone panicked.

I couldn't make a good decision easily and with confidence.

πŸ‘Ά Stock Card Was Born

My tech giant CEO dream faded away, and a vision to build an investment research platform became my only train-ride dream. I quit my job to build Stock Card.

I built it for everyone like me who is busy with life and doesn't want to invest based on the Internet's panics and hypes. I built it for those who understand the importance of investing for their future but don't have time to read annual reports or watch several videos to gather a full view of a stock.

I built to simplify investment research based on facts and without noise. If that's what you need, I'm glad you found us.

πŸš€ Users Loved It

Since I launched Stock Card in 2018, roughly 70,000 investors have signed up to research their stocks and ETFs on the platform.

Prominent financial creators such as Joseph Hogue, Brian Feroldi, Brian Stoffel, and Ramin Nakisa understood the mission and joined us as partners by sharing their portfolios on Portfolio Center.

Now, I spend significantly less time discovering new stocks and ETFs, and I am confident about my picks. It's easy to research and compare stocks and ETFs consistently and in the same format before pulling the buy or sell triggers. When the market goes through hype cycles, like during the COVID rally, or when it falls into a panic mode, like what happened in 2022, I stick to my strategy and sway less by the noise.
